The common
goal for most homeowners who I meet is they want to
pay off the mortgage. However, the
biggest problem with homeowners I meet is that their
plan to pay off the mortgage is about 10-15 years
behind.
I have
found that people who enter their 40's start to get
a little bit nervous about finances as they may have
not been as disciplined as they would have liked in
their 20's and 30's. No matter what age you
are, you really need to keep the end game in mind as
it relates to your mortgage. It's not
always easy to look out 30 years, but you have to
answer the question; "At what age do I want to
have the mortgage paid off?" Once you
have the answer to that question along with a couple
of others, you can then begin to think clearly as to
how you plan to manage the largest asset you own;
YOUR HOME. At that point in time, you can now
clearly think about and develope a strategic plan to
reach your FREEDOM POINT.
My job
is to ask you the relevant questions so you can
begin to think about your goals as it relates to
your mortgage. Based on your answers and
thoughts, it's my job to present you with mortgage
options which fit both your goals and comfort level.
Depending on your comfort level, there are a variety
of solutions in the marketplace from more aggressive
loan products & interest rates, making extra
payments to your principal every month, or making
payments into a Freedom Account which can increase
in value over time with the goal being to create
enough cash to pay off the mortgage if you choose
to.
